What happens when you combine kayaking with the arts? You get a series of incredible family-friendly “ARTventures,” brought to you by Dublin Arts Council and Olentangy Paddle!

This summer, DAC is partnering with Olentangy Paddle to offer several one-of-a-kind excursions for arts lovers, nature lovers and adventurers alike. Each program offers something a little different – from kayaking to a concert or other performance to exploring DAC’s Riverboxes™ via the water, there’s something for everyone! Here are some of the trips you can look forward to this summer:

Kayak to the performance of The Descent of This Water: Rain

Journey by kayak to The Descent of This Water: Rain as you prepare yourself of an exploration of the intersections of the body and the identity of a place. Choreographer Crystal Michelle of Dayton, Ohio takes inspiration from cultural and communal memories for this historical exploration of the river as a site of migration, a point of freedom and as a location of cultural convergence. Dancers from The Ohio State University and from the Dayton and Columbus communities will bring this compelling performance to life.

Riverbox™ Kayak ARTventures

Participate in a one-of-a-kind experience that offers a combination of kayaking, letterboxing, geocaching, art and history. Float down the Scioto River in kayaks, stopping along the way to discover the Riverboxes. A north run and a south run will be offered, each with different Riverboxes to explore. Click here for more information about the Riverboxes!

Kayak to the opening reception of Alfred Tibor: Hatred Doesn’t Work

Immerse yourself in nature along the Scioto as you journey to the opening reception of an exhibition featuring small-scale sculptures and maquettes by 95-year-old local sculptor Alfred Tibor, an inspirational central Ohio sculptor and Holocaust survivor. Tibor’s artwork is found in nearly 500 private collections and museums worldwide. Tibor emerged as a positive, gentle soul with the desire to spread his personal motto, “Hatred Doesn’t Work,” which will be preserved and delivered unforgettably in his own voice through augmented reality experiences within the exhibition.

Kayak to the Sundays at Scioto Summer Concert Series

Arrive in style to enjoy performances by a variety of bands at the 32nd annual Sundays at Scioto Summer Concert Series! Bring a blanket to sit on and arrive in time to have a bite to eat before the concert – bring your own or visit one of the food trucks and dessert options available at the concert. Musical genres and trip themes will vary by week.

You can find more information and registration options for each trip at OlentangyPaddle.com. We hope to see you on the river this summer!
