Laura Bidwa: Wonder 48 is an exhibition of intimate-yet-powerful paintings created from life and inspired by the idea that the more you look at things, the less you know them, but the more wonderful they become. Bidwa believes that painting is the perfect way to address this concept, and describes the art form as “dumbly physical yet metaphorical.” Bidwa’s process involves multiple layers of paint and sanding.
“The physical nature of the paint on the panel—thinness or thickness, gloss or lack of gloss, abrasion, how the layers are ordered—is as important to me as the 2D shapes and colors,” says Bidwa. “There’s no set way that I do things. It’s just one step at a time: I do something, look at it the next day, do something else, look at that the next day, and continue until something happens.”Bidwa’s work has been shown in numerous gallery and museum exhibitions in the United States and Germany, as well as at art fairs in New York, Miami, Los Angeles and San Francisco, including Aqua Art Miami, ScopeMiami, ScopeNY, Art(212) and ArtLA. Her artwork is part of more than 50 private, corporate and public collections in the United States and Europe. Most recently, Bidwa collaborated with master printers at Forth Estate and Axelle Editions in New York to produce the print Silence Yourself for the Ohio Portfolio, a project initiated by the Pizzuti Collection and now administered by Joseph Editions.A free public reception will be held Tuesday, August 2 from 6 to 8 p.m. Gallery hours: Tuesday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Wednesday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Saturday 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Details: 614.889.7444. Exhibition and public reception are free of charge.
