Southern Exposures: Photography of the Rural South combines Barbara Breen’s passion for photography, natural landscapes, continuous learning and travel to provide a body of work focused on unique architecture, cemeteries and people in rural towns. Her dedication to preserving the untouched regions of the southern landscape is illustrated in a solo exhibition on view from June 20 to July 28 at Dublin Arts Council, 7125 Riverside Dr., in Dublin, Ohio.

The artist’s exquisitely detailed pure black and white photographs are captured with either a vintage 4 x 5 view format camera or a 120 Pentax 6 x 7, hand-processed in a traditional darkroom and printed on silver gelatin fiber-based paper. The photographs are selenium toned, then mounted and matted.

Breen has an Associate Degree in Biomedical & Technical Fine Arts Photography from the Ohio Institute of Photography in Dayton, Ohio. Her artwork can be found in permanent collections in Georgia, North Carolina and Ohio. She has participated in numerous invitational and juried exhibitions throughout the region and has garnered several awards for excellence, including 1st place in the Six-State Firelands Association for the Visual Arts (FAVA) Photography Exhibition in Oberlin, Ohio in 2013.

Gallery hours are Tuesday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Wednesday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Saturday 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The exhibition and public reception are free of charge.
