Accessible Expressions Ohio

Exhibition and Community Programming

November 9 - December 19, 2024

The project is presented in partnership with Art Possible Ohio (APO), a statewide nonprofit organization that bridges the arts and disabilities, and advocates for inclusivity and accessibility. Since the exhibition’s inception in 1996, Accessible Expressions Ohio has showcased the artistic vibrancy of more than 1,500 artists - and this year is no exception. This year’s themes of self care and mental health are skillfully woven into the 2D and 3D artwork in the categories of youth, emerging and professional artists. All artwork proceeds will benefit the artist in full, to fuel their creative journey.

To accompany the exhibition, Dublin Arts Council will collaborate with local and national artists to offer a full schedule of community events that aim to inspire and empower artists.

Guest Artist
John Bramblitt

John Bramblitt is a professional artist living in Denton, Texas. His artwork has gained international recognition, with artwork sold in more than 120 countries and featured in numerous magazine covers and film productions. His story has been featured on CBS Evening News with Katie Couric, ABC, NBC, FOX, Discovery Channel and BBC Radio and TV, The New York Times and Psychology Today, among others. He is also the author of the award-winning book, Shouting in the Dark, where he shares his story as an artist who lost his eyesight later in life.

Through his journey, John learned to distinguish between different colored paints by feeling their textures with his fingers. He taught himself how to paint using raised lines to help him find his way around the canvas, and through something called haptic visualization, which enables him to "see" his subjects through touch. He now paints amazingly lifelike portraits of people he's never seen--including his wife and son.

Today, John is the owner and operator of the Yellow Dog Art Bar and Gallery in Denton, Texas. He travels around the country as a consultant for museums in developing programs that are designed to include everyone – no matter their ability or disability. John has received three Presidential Service Awards for his innovative art workshops. Through his workshops, he hopes people will connect, leave happy and be ready to take on whatever lies before them.
