Gravity’s Ripple III was an original, site-specific outdoor contemporary dance project, presented by Dublin Arts Council and OhioDance in collaboration with The Ohio State University Department of Dance and Ohio Department of Education Division of the Arts in September 2011. The approximate 40-minute free public performance on the sloping riverfront grounds of the Dublin Arts Center was inspired by the rolling hills of the site and the Scioto River.

Gravity’s Ripple was developed as part of Dublin Arts Council’s ongoing program, Ripple Effect: Artistic Impact of the Scioto River and was presented for the first time in 2009.

Keely Shaffer-Glenn, who has a Bachelor of Arts in Dance Education from Brigham Young University and a Master of Fine Arts in Dance-Choreography from University of Iowa, was selected by jury to choreograph Gravity’s Ripple III. Glenn’s creation will explore her fascination with the hope of flying.

“Once again, I am standing on a grassy hill looking out at the river asking myself ‘What if?’ with a cast of extraordinary movers, balloons, paper airplanes, and determination to create some magic,” she says.

Gravity’s Ripple III will be inspired by the early aviators of the 20th century and the imagery of David Wiesner’s beloved children’s picture books. Through dance, Glenn plans to impart laughter and hope to those who dream to fly.

The Gravity’s Ripple project took place during a residency at Dublin Arts Council and included school-based master classes for Columbus students from Duxberry Park Arts IMPACT Elementary School, Easthaven Elementary School and Fort Hayes Performing Arts High School.

Additional support for the Gravity’s Ripple project was provided by Ohio Arts Council and Target.
